How to Use a CNC Milling Machine – Safe Operating Procedures of Vertical Machining Center & Milling Machine

2020.3.16

Safe operating procedures of machine tools directly related to product quality and personal safety. Be familiar with how to use a CNC milling machine can minimize the errors or faults and get substantial improvement in throughput.

How to Use a CNC Milling Machine – Safe Operating Procedures of Milling Machines

There are many precautions and details should pay attention to before, during and after the operation of CNC milling machines.

1) Dress in coverall before entering the workshop. Wear a hat or hairnet if you have long hair
2) Ensure all the guards in place during the operating process
3) All experimental steps must be carried out under the guidance of the training teacher or instructions, it is not allowed to start the machine tool without permission.
4) When the milling machine is running, it is not allowed to leave the work and do anything irrelevant to the operation. Do not allow else to touch it as well.
5) Do not play in the workshop. Do not shuttle between the machines while the machine is started. Keep hands away from the moving cutting tools.
6) Do not operate the “machine lock” key that has been set on the operation box before the instructor confirms the program is correct.
7) Ensure the workpiece is firmed fixed on the worktable.
8) Before starting the milling machine, check whether the spanner, wedge and other tools are removed from the machine.
9) Select right speed and cutter recommended in the experimental instruction or based on the types of cutting tool and material of the CNC milling parts.
10) Use a brush or towel to remove the chips around the workpiece and mill bed when the machine is stopped.
11) Do not measure the part while the milling machine is powered.
12) In the operation of the CNC milling machine, it is forbidden to change the speed. If changing the speed or tool, the machine tool should be completely stopped and the switch is in the off position, to prevent the machine tool accidents.
13) The surface of the mandrel and the spindle hole must be thoroughly wiped, to clean all the oil stains.

How to Use a Vertical Machining Center – Safe Operating Procedures of Vertical Machining Center

The use of vertical machines should be in proper conditions and environments. The CNC vertical machining center should be far away from the vibration source, avoid the direct sunlight and influence of heat radiation, and prevent moisture and airflow. The environment temperature for vertical machining center should be lower than 30℃ and the orientation of the machining center requires strict control of the power supply voltage.

1) Wear work clothes and protection appliances before the operation. Carry out lubrication and maintenance as required.
2) When clamping the workpiece, it should be handled with care to prevent bumping and collision with the worktable, when the block material is heavy, verify the bearing capacity of the machine, overload operation is not allowed.
3) After the machine tool is started, check whether the motion of the spindle and worktable in all directions and the pressure indicator are normal.
4) The machining program should be checked before running it. When using the high-speed function, the matching of tools should be confirmed.
5) In the process of machining, it should always pay attention to whether the movement and machining of the machine tool are normal, when there are abnormal phenomena, such as noise and alarm, the machine should be stopped immediately for inspection and treatment, and the processing can be continued after troubleshooting.
6) If there are too many chips in the chip removal tank, the chip removal device shall be opened after manual cleaning.
7) The new operator of the machine tool shall be familiar with the performance, operation method and precautions, and then can operate the machine only under the guidance of professional personnel.
8) After the workpiece is processed, clean the workbench, wipe and lubricate the machine tool, clean the surroundings and keep the area clean.
9) Turn off the control system before turning off the main power supply of the machine tool; do not use the emergency stop switch in nonemergency state.
10) Fill in the operation record of the machine tool and do handover before going off work every day.
