Processing Range and Working Principle of Horizontal Machining Center

2022.10.31

CNC machining center is a high-precision machining equipment integrating automation, compound machining and high-speed. Among them, horizontal machining center and vertical machining center are two types of machines that are widely used at present. The machining parts of the two machine tools are also quite different. Next, we will mainly introduce the machining range of the horizontal machining center.

Machining centers can be divided into vertical machining centers with vertical spindles and horizontal machining centers with horizontal spindles according to the configuration mode of spindles. Horizontal machining centers are more popular than vertical machining centers for two main reasons. First of all, the convenient and solid workbench can handle various processing jobs in a shorter time. Secondly, it is easier to collect chips from the workpiece due to the structure and, of course, with the help of gravity.

Horizontal machining center spindle is horizontally oriented, which can perform small angle cutting, especially on the side of the workpiece. This type of machining is suitable for milling grooves or shaping planes. At present, horizontal machining centers are mainly used to process large area parts and complex geometric shapes.

What Parts Can Be Processed By Horizontal Machining Center

As horizontal machining center machine tools can be widely used in different automation fields, modern horizontal machining center machine tools can simultaneously complete multiple metal processing processes, such as complex milling, turning, finishing and deep hole drilling. In most industries, horizontal machining centers are used to replace traditional machine tools to process large parts, such as cylindrical surfaces of shaft or disk parts. In addition, they are often used to process curved surfaces and conical surfaces of large parts with arbitrary cone angles.

The metal equipment industry uses horizontal machining centers to increase production and productivity. It can perform various tasks according to its intended use, including forming, turning, machining cams, ultra precision machining and hard turning. Most horizontal machining centers can be equipped with automatic tool change devices, which can store multiple tools for machining parts at the same time. The machine tool control system can effectively perform multiple cutting operations simultaneously without manual intervention.

Accuracy is a very important parameter for every automobile industry and aviation industry. In particular, components of aircraft equipment need to strictly comply with the laws of physics. In this case, the accuracy of traditional CNC machine tools cannot guarantee such accuracy. On the other hand, horizontal machining centers can produce precision parts for aerospace and other industries. On the other hand, modern horizontal machining centers can save time and do not require manual intervention. Typically, the operator simply provides the program to start.

Working Principle of Horizontal Machining Center

Horizontal machining center refers to the machining center whose spindle axis is parallel to the machine tool workbench. Its working principle is that after the workpiece is clamped on the workbench of the machine tool, the CNC system of the horizontal machining center can automatically select different tools, automatically change the spindle speed of the machine tool, and sequentially complete the multi process processing of multiple surfaces of the workpiece. In addition, the main advantage of the horizontal machining center is to effectively improve the accuracy and productivity of complex workpieces.

Generally, horizontal machining centers are equipped with workbenches that can perform indexing rotary motion. Generally, there are multiple moving coordinates. It is common to add three linear moving coordinates and one rotary moving coordinate, which can enable the workpiece to complete the processing of the other four surfaces except the mounting surface and the top surface after one clamping. It is suitable for processing box type parts.

Compared with vertical machining centers, horizontal machining centers can process complex parts with less manual operations. In addition, the service life of the cutting tools of the horizontal machining center is longer than that of the vertical machining machine tool. Therefore, the horizontal machining center is more suitable for heavy workpieces requiring multi surface machining.
